That's every summer for me. The life ticks that are wasted chasing things that don't define life.

You may ask why? well, it is simple. As it was said in Shining: "all work and no play make Jack a dull boy." Stuck in a world of senseless worries, petty conflicts and meaningless chases after class and social status. Meanwhile, my life clock ticks toward the finish line quicker than ever.

I guess you sense the passage of time by the changes in your biology and cognition. Since these changes have long slowed down in me the time passes by quicker. Once someone told me that the time passes by quicker between 30 and 40 rather than 20 and 30. I am inclined to augment this by adding that time passes with the same rate for every decade afterward.

I almost feel like Gregor Samsa in Kafka's Metamorphism. As a matter of fact I think that Gregor symbolized the struggle of modern man. Or, rather the struggles that he has invented for himself.

Anyway, I think most of these feelings are caused by my mechanical life style. Office work is not exactly natural; and I, or should I say we, can't get away either due to our restrictions.
