Fiscal cliff |

The fiscal calamities this time seems to be more real in United States than ever before. At least I am more worried about it this time around. I think this time around it might be a bit more than partisan rhetoric, and vitriol; and there is a more ominous cause behind it. I think the reasons are, first, the tax breaks that were put in place by the previous administration cannot be removed. Second, the debt ceiling that was just raised a while ago is again about to be breached. This tells me that there are fundamental issues with the economy down south. If I were to use a personal analogy it goes something like this: A while ago (during George W. Bush administration) I stopped paying for my child education savings, because I needed the money to pay the bills (also known as Bus Tax Cuts), now I don't seem to be able to ever afford it again! Also, I asked the bank to raise my credit limit on my credit card about a year ago by a few thousand dollars. Now, I don't seem to be able to pay that fast enough, and I have to go back to money well again. This sounds bad. It sounds like I need financial counseling, or something like that. It means I cannot afford my life style. At a national level, I think pumping money into housing via eternal quantitative easing may not be the solution. I guess most of the blue labor force in post-industrial countries are now shifted from manufacturing to domestic development, and that's why real estate is such a hot potato everywhere in North America (don't get me going on Vancouver Real Estate, I am going to be nauseated). But, I guess it is the sense of "false materialistic entitlement" that is endowed our culture up here that is wreaking havoc with the economy. Everyone is turning into a narcissistic rich-wanna-be these days, without having any realistic means of actually getting rich (besides, I think getting rich is mostly a bit of luck and who you know, not what you know). Useless pretentious socialites are dominating the youth culture (don't want to taint my blog with their names). Come on people...get real. This is none sense. You need to pay your bills. This "stuff" is not going to make us happier! It is going to make you want more "stuff". Now, you may ask why I worry. Because my livelihood in this corner of rain forest depends on what goes on south. I'll be left in the cold if south's economy goes any more south. That worries me. We are all tied together.
